Oil Changes & Scheduled Maintenance on the Key Peninsula
Regular oil changes and on-schedule maintenance are one of the simplest ways to keep your car reliable and catch small problems before they become bigger repairs. We use the oil and filter your manufacturer calls for, look over the rest of your car while it's on the lift, and keep track of what's due next.
What happens at an oil change
We drain the old oil with your car up on the lift, install a new filter, and refill with oil that matches your manufacturer's viscosity and specification. That matters more than it used to. Many newer engines, and most European ones, call for oil that carries a specific approval, such as GM dexos or a Mercedes-Benz or Volkswagen spec, and the wrong oil can lead to extra engine wear.
While your car is in the air, we do a multi-point inspection. It's a good chance to spot a cracked belt or a seeping hose before it leaves you stranded. Here's the kind of thing we look at:
- Oil, coolant, brake and washer fluid levels and condition, plus power steering fluid where equipped
- Belts and hoses
- Tire pressure and tread depth
- Visible brake wear, lights and wiper blades
- Leaks, exhaust, suspension and axle boots from underneath

Factory maintenance at 30k, 60k, 90k and 120k
Your manufacturer publishes a schedule of what to service and when. Beyond oil changes, it typically includes some mix of engine and cabin air filters, brake fluid, coolant, transmission and differential fluid, spark plugs and, on engines that have one, the timing belt. Items and intervals vary a lot by make and engine, so we work from your vehicle's own schedule.
Some items are due by time as well as mileage, especially brake fluid and coolant. That catches a lot of cars that don't get driven much. Don't stretch a timing belt interval, either. On many engines, a broken timing belt lets the pistons and valves collide, causing serious internal damage. We track your service history and remind you when the next interval is coming up.
Hybrids still have a gas engine that needs regular oil changes. Fully electric cars skip the oil, but they still need brake fluid, cabin air filters and tire care, and most have a coolant system with its own service schedule.
Does your driving count as severe service?
Many owner's manuals list two schedules: normal and severe, sometimes called special operating conditions. Despite the name, severe service describes a lot of everyday driving. If it fits how you drive, the shorter intervals are the ones to follow.
Plenty of Key Peninsula driving fits the list below. Tell us how you use your car and we'll recommend the schedule that matches, not simply the shortest one.
- Mostly short trips, where the engine never fully warms up and moisture builds up in the oil, especially in cool, damp weather
- Stop-and-go traffic or lots of idling
- Gravel or dusty roads, which clog the engine air filter faster
- Steep hills, towing a trailer or hauling heavy loads
- Regular driving in below-freezing or very hot weather
Maintenance and your factory warranty
You don't have to use the dealer for maintenance to keep your factory warranty. As the Federal Trade Commission explains, under federal law a manufacturer or dealer generally can't void your warranty or deny coverage simply because routine maintenance was done somewhere else. A claim can still be denied if improper maintenance or the wrong part actually caused the problem.
So what counts is that the maintenance gets done on schedule, with the right fluids and parts, and that you can show it. We use manufacturer-recommended oils and filters and OEM or OE-equivalent parts. Keep your invoices, and we keep your service history on file too. For questions about your specific coverage, your warranty booklet has the final word.

Common Questions
How often should I change my oil?
Go by your owner's manual or your car's oil-life monitor. Many newer cars on synthetic oil commonly go 5,000 to 10,000 miles between changes, while older engines and severe-service driving call for shorter intervals. Most manufacturers also set a time limit, often 6 or 12 months, so a car that sits a lot still needs fresh oil.
Does my car need synthetic oil?
If your manual calls for it, yes. Many modern engines, especially turbocharged and European ones, call for low-viscosity oils such as 0W-20 or oil meeting a specific approval, which in practice means full synthetic. If your manual allows conventional or a synthetic blend, we'll explain the options.
My maintenance light is on. Is something wrong?
Usually not. A maintenance reminder, often a wrench icon or an oil-life message, just means scheduled service is due. The check engine light is different: it means the engine computer has logged a fault. If it's flashing, that usually signals a severe misfire that can overheat and damage the catalytic converter, so drive as little as possible and call us right away.
Do you service hybrids and European cars?
Yes. We maintain all makes and models, domestic and import, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, hybrids and EVs. For anything involving a hybrid or EV's high-voltage system, call first to confirm we can take it on.
